'Mexicali' ( Keith Keppel, R. 1969). Seedling #63-24L. BB, 26" (66 cm), Early midseason bloom. Color Class-Y4W-2R, Standards mimosa yellow (M&P l0-J-2), paler toward midrib; falls white, blended straw (10-F-2); plicata markings on haft, mahogany red (near 8-L-3); lighter sanded plicata pattern on falls edge; yellow beard. Seedling #61-28A: ( 'Taholah' x seedling #59-4B ( 'Progenitor' x 'Royal Band')) X 'My Honeycomb'. Keppel 1970. Exhibition Certificate 1969; Honorable Mention 1971; Award of Merit 1973.

From AIS Bulletin #197 April 1970 Introducing MEXICALI EM. 26". (Taholah x (Progenitor x Royal Band)) X My Honeycomb. Border iris, named for the Mexican border town. This is a variegata plicata, with standards of clear, unmarked mimosa yellow. Falls are white, brushed straw, with mahogany-red plicata markings covering the haft and a paler sanded plicata margin around the remainder of the fall. Beard yellow. The entire flower is lightly ruffled; standards touch, falls flare slightly. Up to three branches plus terminal, many buds. EC '69. $20.00. Keith Keppel.
