Translation:
Cold-hardiness of Iris Oncocyclus. - This series of superb irises is mistaken to be too delicate to survive under the climate of Paris; but, during the winter just ended, we noted a fairly hard frost: from 13 to 15 ° below zero in the vicinity of Paris. Iris Sari-Nazarena and I. iberica ^ belonging to the group Oncocyclus ^ planted in open ground, in October, in a light and sandy soil, at noon, and left without any shelter, did not undergo the attack of this jelly. The rhizomes remained in good condition. So we see that by taking care to plant these rhizomes deeply (from 15 to 17 centimeters in soil) and, as a condom, to cover them with straw or leaves, we can consider these Iris as plants of full ground. - (J. R.)
