'King Karl' (Jacob Sass, R. 1925) IB. 28". Midseason bloom. Color Class-S5M. 'Midwest' x I. variegata .

Awarded the AIS Award of Merit for 1924 introductions published in the January 1928 AIS Bulletin, page 53, see reference below.

From Sass catalog, 1937: KING KARL (Jacob Sass, 1925)- Beautifully ruffled light pinkish cinnamon standards. F. cream sanded in an all-over pattern of liseran purple with a yellow beard. The bloom takes on beautiful rosy tones as it ages. 27 inches. (Award of Merit, Wisley Trials, 1931). 25c
From Sarah Toedt’s Springtime Gardens catalog, 1929: KING KARL — A ruffled cream background plicata with heavier stippling of color than Jubilee. Coppery tones in the stippling.
 
From Quality Gardens catalog 1931: KING KARL, (Sass 1924) M. 30". A plicata which is still outstanding as there is nothing like the color of it yet on the market. A deep peach color, heavily dotted a pinkish brown. The flower is beautifully frilled and has lots of substance. Darker than Jubilee. $.75.
