From Farr, 1917/18) Standards and falls rich violet-purple; very handsome. From Indian Spring Farms, 1927: a wild iris from southern Europe. Flowers uniform blackish-purple-a rich coloring that is greatly admired. Blooms early at the same time as Florentina with which it makes an attractive planting. Nomenclature much confused; similar to 'Purple King' but falls slightly darker
