From Cornell Extension Bulletin 112, 1925: "Color effect a rose-purple veined self. Standards rose-purple, bronzed at base and reticulated brown on yellow claw. Falls dull magenta-purple, with lighter outer haft veined brilliant magenta-purple to brownish on inner haft. The beard is fine, dense, projecting, and yellow. |
From R. S. Sturtevant, "Farr's Seedling Irises", A.I.S. Bulletin 14 (Jan. 1925): 16: In 1910 came Rose Unique and, as an afterthought, the tall 'Tecumseh' valueless except for its height. It is amusing as I look back to remember the controversy over Rose Unique, some liked it and called it pink, others would not give it house room and yet, even today, there is not a variety of its color that flowers so early in the season and ushers in so cheeringly the pageant of later irises. |
