From Sass catalog, 1937: ULTRA (H. P. Sass)- The general color effect is blue. S. Ultramarine violet. A very reliable intermediate, fall bloomer. 25c |
ULTRA [DB-sic] - The bluest iris I know. It is a hybrid of pumila strain. Comes with two or three blooms to a stem, and is a real gem. Honorable Mention '26. J. Sass 1926. "Ultra: An Intermediate and fall bloomer that should be divided often and have the soil renewed yearly to get the best fall results. It is a bright blue bicolor of very heavy substance with horizontal falls. The foliage is too tall for the flower stalks, but this is hardly noticeable so fine is the quality of the flowers. It is a rapid increaser and perfectly hardy."-- Bulletin of the American Iris Society 51: 30. April 1934. |
