From Marx Gardens catalog, 1962: GALATEA (Marx 1961) Each $5.00. "A cotton fabric with blue and white stripes" given as a definition of the word Galatea, aptly suggests this unusual and fascinating new iris. We have grown hundreds of thousands of Marhigo iris seedlings and never have we seen another quite like GALATEA. The ground color is near flax blue sharply penciled white almost to the edges of the standards and falls. Pure white styles and petaloids accent the centers. The large draping 8- to 9-inch blooms are produced on 2-way branched 4-foot stems for 3 to 4 weeks. Truly an iris for the Kaempferi iris fancier who seeks something new and different. Picture on page 8.
