Series Hexagonae (Diels) Lawrence
The botanical series that is equivalent to the horticultural class Louisiana Irises. These species share an affinity to moist situations, many growing in shallow water. In the wild the species range from Texas on the West, to Florida in the East, and North to Iowa around the Mississippi river system. They get their name from a center of greater diversity within the state of Louisiana, but there may be a second poorly recognized center in Florida. In cultivation These plants can be grown far North into Canada and with proper culture almost everywhere in the USA.
