---++POSITION TITLE: Calendar Coordinator received 11-5-2015 *BASIC FUNCTION:* * To coordinate all aspects of the preparation and publication of The American Iris Society annual calendar and coordinate such with the AIS Storefront Coordinator. *REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:* * He/she is appointed by the President and responsible to the Board of Directors *MAJOR FUNCTIONS:* * To coordinate all aspects of the preparation and publication of The American Iris Society annual calendar and coordinate such with the AIS Storefront Coordinator. *SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITY AND* *AUTHORITY:* * To select digital photographs in high resolution for use in the annual calendar. * To prepare a layout for the annual calendar. * To coordinate printing/publishing with the publisher and Storefront Coordinator. * To present a written report to the AIS Board of Directors at its annual spring and fall meeting. *TIMETABLE FOR ACCOMPLISHING SPECIFIC TASKS:* Mid-October – Procure a quote from the publisher of costs to be presented by Storefront Coordinator at the November AIS Board of Directors fall meeting. Mid-November Copy ready, photos chosen, material to designer or layout done. A continuous interaction with the publisher, with changes and corrections until the final pdf proof is approved. December-January Deadline for final approval to publisher. Delivery of the calendars for sale/distribution to AIS Storefront. April To present a written report to the AIS Board of Directors at its annual spring meeting. *HISTORY OF THE CALENDAR PROJECT* The calendar project began in 1985 at the behest of Joe Gatty. January 1 * Deadline for submission of copy (usually by FAX) to publisher. * Publisher's deadlines now control the process. Continuous interactions with the publisher, with changes and corrections (usually by FAX), until the final proof is approved. April 1 * Delivery of the calendars for sale/distribution. Mid-April to late May * Attend the spring meeting of the AIS Board of Directors and make a written report. This meeting is concurrent with the AIS National Convention. First week-end in November * Attend the fall meeting of the AIS Board of Directors and make a written report. *HISTORY OF THE CALENDAR PROJECT* The calendar project began in 1985 at the behest of Joe Gatty. The first calendar was published in 1986 through DAI Nippon Printing. The first fifteen (15) annual calendars were printed in Japan. The 2000 and 2001 calendars were printed in Hong Kong due to lower paper prices at that branch of DNP. Olive Rice-Waters (for many years AIS Public Relations chairman), along with George Waters, retired editor of <em>Pacific Horticulture, </em>have been the creative force behind the calendar project since its inception.
