(MDB) 'Caerulea'

1829, Probably a collected natural hybrid

'Caerulea' (Origin unknown). DB, height 5" (13 cm). Very early bloom. Standards light blue; falls darker blue, purple markings; yellow-white beards. Probable hybrid of I. pumila .

note: A.I.S. approved name: 'Pumila Caerulea', though obviously not I. pumila. First listed by Prince, 1829; Later mentioned in Lynch, Book of Iris page 122, 1904 with a black and white illustration. It seems likely that this is a natural hybrid between Iris lutescens and Iris pumila .

Some references spell it Coerulea a synonym, other synonyms are 'Pumila Azurea', Pumila Coelestis', and the misprint 'Pumila Caerualea'.
