From David B. SIndt Irises 1980 catelogue: Seven inches tall (18 cm). A quip is a witty observation or remark; usually made on the spur of the moment, according to the dictionary. This QUIP is clearly witty, its diminuitive size suggesting a spur of the moment one-liner. From plicata breeding, it is really a sparkling white with contrasting violet style arms and hafts. If you are looking for a plicata, like I was at first, the markings are sparse; as a basically white flower with a tasteful touch of violet at its heart, QUIP's a winner. Of all the seedlings from this cross, this one was best in MDB size and proportion, and passes its small, well-formed flowers, leaves, and plants on to its progeny. What's more, QUIP's most interesting seedlings have been pure unmarked whites. QUIP's future as a fertile 40 chromosome MDB for breeding, however, does not diminish its delightful personality as a garden flower. |
