---++ Encyclopedia Mission Statement *Iris Encyclopedia* *Mission* *Statement* The mission of the Iris Encyclopedia is to provide freely to the world a comprehensive, illustrative, information resource on the Genus Iris, its species and cultivars. It attempts to make identification or verification possible with a large collection of images tied to the official descriptions. It hopes to make botanical and horticultural knowledge available in an understandable way and to unite the botanical and horticultural knowledge bases and by doing so help The American Iris Society disseminate correct iris information. By contributing their own observations individuals can add to the volume of data. *Sponsorship Opportunities:* The non-profit American Iris Society (AIS) provides the Encyclopedia as a public service. Become a member of AIS if you wish to help support the Encyclopedia. Now you can join by Emembership in AIS, If you would like to help sustain this reference, for $15 you can become an Emember, [[http://www.irises.org/ppal/OnlineAISJOIN.html][click here]]. Emembership includes quarterly electronic bulletins, access to the Electronic Checklist of Irises, and an archive of the over 350 previous AIS bulletins. Other services will be added in the future. If you would like to see this information remain available now and to the next generation join the network of membership today. *The American Iris Society Provides the Following Services:* 1. Registration of cultivars achieved as the world's International Cultivar Registration Authority for all Irises, with the exception of bulbous Irises registered by the Dutch KAVB. Note: with the cooperation of the KAVB bulbous irises will also be included in the Encyclopedia. 2. Education for youth accomplished through the Classroom Iris Project. 3. Research on the Genus Iris is being supported through grants. Some of the current researchers include; Dr, Carole Wilson, Rancho Santa Anna Botanical Garden, and Dr. Norlan Martin, Texas State University, etc. 4. Iris Shows, Conventions and Symposia are performed each year. Using AIS guidelines and AIS expert judges maintain a high quality of presentation of Irises to the public through over 150 iris shows each year. 5. Publications related to the Genus Iris are available through the AIS Storefront. *Planned Giving* If you would like to see the work of AIS continue consider remembering AIS in your will. You would be helping Irises span the generations. For more information, contact the AIS donations chair. -- Main.RPries - 2011-09-27
