Hybridizer's comment: 'Tweety Bird' is from a one seed cross. Fortunately that one seed germinated !
Pod parent, 'Wake Up' has the purple 'Velvet Pride' in its background. 'Velvet Pride' was an exceptionally nice SDB at that time.
'Wake Up' also has
'Soft Air' as part of the pod parent which ties it back to
'Chubby Cheeks'.
The pollen parent has tangerine bearded plicatas to reinforce the orange beards and also
'Chubby Cheeks' sib, again to tie it back to
'Chubby Cheeks' and reinforce the genes for form and plicata.
The cross was made as the beginning of a project to put orange beards on purple irises. 'Tweety Bird' was initially a better parent for orange bearded yellows, salmons, and apricots than for orange bearded purples. Only later did the orange bearded purples evolve.
Kitty Dyer is Perry Dyer's mother. Many of you know Perry. When 'Tweety Bird' bloomed, I was so excited I called her and Perry and told them they had to see it. In her haste to get there, Kitty received a speeding ticket. She did get a Tweety for free to help ease the pain of the ticket.

- THIS is a very important SBD : 53 registrations mention it's name and it is in the pedigree of many SDBs that are born nowdays. And you know why? It is the best 'Shape Improver' you can think of!
