Robert Pries, as yet unregistered). SPEC-cristata, A seemingly more vigorous blue form of Iris cristata collected from Missouri by Edgar Anderson, past Director of Missouri Botanical Gardens. MBG Shaw Arboretum #930165. Mature leaves 25-32 X 2 cm. mature rhizomes 15 mm at widest point. Early blooming. 2 blooms per stalk, 6.5" tall at first bloom. Flower size 2 and 1/4 inches when newly opened falls: Periwinkle blue (RHS 91A). Darker below signal ring. Standards: same as falls, with a bit more red-violet (RHS 92A); styles: pearly tones of standards' color. Signal: Nice wide white area with a darker blue (RHS 89A) ring which then diffuses into falls. Crests white with blue on outside two crest tips and yellow in the valleys. Central crest is tallest and solid, outer crests fringed. Outstanding vigor and good substance. slight fragrance. [Iris cristata Solander]. Joe Pye Weed 2010
