(SPEC) Iris furseorum Tony Hall & Arnis Seisums

2014, Tony Hall & Arnis Seisums

Iris furseorum ( Tony Hall and Arnis Seisums in Curtis's Botanical Magazine) Subgenus Scorpiris (Junos) 10.8-12.5 cm. tall.

Named in honor of Paul & Polly Furse:

Distribution:Afghanistan, Kataghan Province, Farquar Valley on granite-grit slopes, 7,000-8,000 ft. altitude.

Diagnosis:Related to Iris zaprjagajewvii (N.V.Abramov) T. Hall & Seisums, but differing in its yellowish flowers with pinkish -brown staining rather than whitish flowers stained pale pink, blue or violet, in its less abruptly tapering and narrower, less ovate-lanceolate foliage at anthesis, in its narrow leaf margins that are cartilaginous and slightly hispid rather than silvery-white and glabrous, and in its chromosome count.
