(SPEC) 'Kopetdaghense'
1998, Kurbanov
‘Kopetdaghense’. (D. Kurbanov, 1998, Western Kopetdag, Turcomania). Section
Hermodactyloides. Described as a new species
Iridodictyum kopetdaghense by Kurbanov in
Botanical Journal Vol.83 N 6, June 1998. Not to be confused with Juno kopetdagensis which in Mathew’s classification is
Iris kopetdaghensis. This Iris is said to be closely related to
Iris reticulata but with narrower square leaves, the corners of which are not clear as in reticulata. The leaves are said to be shorter than reticulata at flowering but longer 40-48 cm after flowering. The flowers dark violet with the base of the falls marked intensely golden along midline. Capsule shorter that reticulata, up to twice as long as width as opposed to 2-4 times as long as width. [Not enough is yet known to make a determination but using Mathew’s system we would probably place this as a variety of
Iris reticulata. M. Bieb..
