■ (SPEC) Iris samariae Dins. or 'Samariae'

1933, Dinsmore

Iris samariae (John Edward Dinsmore, 1933, Bayta, Palestine). Section Oncocyclus , 28" (70 cm). Early bloom. Color Code-Y8D. Flower resembling I. lortetii, but larger, 12 cm in diameter, and falls wider, not strongly reflexed, with larger dots, 4-5 x 6-7 cm, narrowed slightly to a very short haft, purple-lined and dotted on a creamy ground; spot small, dark-brown, hairs red-brown on a white ground. Standards 6.5 cm, orbicular with a short claw, lined with dark-pink, dark-brown at the base; style branches 5 cm, reddish-brown, the crests purple-dotted, recurved. See below:
