Iris staintonii Hara (Hiroshi Hara, 1974. Central Nepal); Subgenus Nepalensis. Height 2-3" (3-8 cm); Flowers pale violet no crest, The rhizome is very short only 2-3 mm in length. Distinguishing it from other nepalensis are the only one or two fleshy elipsoid roots, which are only 1-1,5 cm long and 6-8 mm wide. There are some narrow filiform roots also arising from the rhizome. The foliage and stem are surrounded by fibers of old leaves. There are usually 4 leaves the outer ones form short bracts only 1-6 cm long with a obtuse apex. The inner leaves are linear-ensiform up to 30 cm in length and 6 mm in wide with an acute apex. Fowering stems are 3-8 cm tall. The one pale violet flower is about 3 cm in diameter. The flowering tube is only 2-2,5 cm long which distinguishes it from I. colletii along with the shorter stem of collettii. It was collected by J. D. Stainton in 1962 in an alpine meadow at about 11,500 ft. in central Nepal. Iris staintonii Hara in J. Jap. Bot., 49(7): 203 (1974). Baker, W. & T.
