Iris taochii Woronoff ex Grossheim (G. Nikolajewitsch Woronoff, 1927, Kars, Turkish Armenia); Section Iris. Dwarf Bearded; Height 5-12" (15-30 cm), Yellow, blue, or white; beard white, yellow tipped hairs or yellow hairs. hafts veined brown or brownish violet on a white or yellow ground. Also thought by some to be a form of _Iris aphylla

A species from the Caucasus "having bloom stalks of about the same height as those of typical I. aphylla, but with flowers either yellow, violet or whitish. I aphylla as it occurs in the Balkans rarely if ever has yellow flowers. 11

Hanselmayer: "taochia true" without record of color form. Neel: to Gr, to ERo 1961. Ru had it. No color record.
Earnest Luscombe, 1976 B.I.S. Yearbook-- "Iris aphylla var. taochia Woronow ex Grossheim. Caucasus region: Kars, Turkish Armenia. Habit of growth resembles Iris aphylla. Large flowers normally dark violet-purple, but forms with yellow or whitish flowers are recorded. In particular, the dark violet flowered form is refined and most attractive."
