'Buttered Chocolate' ( O. David Niswonger, R. 1973) Seedling #Sp 2-72. SPU, 42" (107 cm). Midseason bloom. Dark brown with gold blaze on falls. 'Baritone' X 'Dark And Handsome'. Cape Iris 1974. Honorable Mention 1975; Nies Award 1980.

From AIS Bulletin #213 April 1974 Introducing BUTTERED CHOCOLATE (Niswonger, '74). Sdlg. Sp 2-72; Baritone x Dark and Handsome. Spuria, 42", M, DO/D08DY. Fertile both ways. My first spuria introduction, and one of the most vigorous of any of my seedlings. Deep brown with golden blaze on F. makes it very showy. $15.00. Cape Iris.
