From AIS Bulletin #125, April 1952. Introducing ALI BABA (David Lyon '52) (Ranger x Cordovan #D204-47-8). The bright red Ali Baba is a sister seedling to the deep maroon variety The Mad Hatter with standards of spectrum taupe and falls of velvety garnet brown. Well branched and will not burn in sun. $18.00. Lyon Iris Garden.
From Fleur De Lis Gardens catalog, 1956: Ali BABA (Lyon 1952) M. L. 37 in. (Ranger x Cordovan). A very large flower of deep garnet brown with extra heavy substance. Fine. H. M. 1954. 5.00
 
From Cooley's catalog, 1956: ALI BABA (Lyon,'52) Each $5.00. Rich brown-red, the standards spectrum-taupe flushed garnet-brown. The texture of the petals is like heavy velvet and it does not burn or wilt in the sun. Large flowers on 44-inch stalks...a seedling of Ranger x Cordovan. HM AIS 1954.
From Rainbow Hybridizing Gardens catalog, 1955: ALI BABA (Lyon '52) M-L-36" A sister seedling to The Mad Hatter whose deep maroon coloring contrasts with the bright red of Ali Baba. The standards are flushed with garnet-brown and the falls are deep brownish-garnet-red. Does not fade in the hot sun. Flower very large and impressive. Best garden effect obtained when planted where the afternoon sun filters through the blossoms. Pleasing fragrance. [Ranger x Cordovan].
From Lyon's Irisland catalog, 1959: All BABA (Lyon '52) $2.00. Standards spectrum taupe flushed garnet-brown; broad flaring deep garnet-brown falls of the heaviest velvety texture; does not fade in the sun. Fragrant. 40". M-L. (Ranger X Cordovan).H. M .'54.
