From Carl Salbach catalog, 1927: AURIFERO. This lovely seedling derives its name from the Spanish word for goldfinch. Its brilliant golden beard and its hafts completely covered with golden reticulations on white give to its center the glow which is its chief claim to distinction. The tall standards of palest lavender and the flaring falls flushed rosy lavender are of the finest finish and style. For a time a beautiful Marian Mohr seedling at Campos Altos tentatively bore this name. A crossing of this with Sherbet to increase its vigor and height achieved both and admirers of the mother may now find all her beauty in her daughter, besides 42-inch stems, large flowers and rampant growth. $ 7.50.
AURIFERO - (Marian Mohr x unknown) x Sherbert. Self B1L Mohr-Mitchell 1923-1927. Low and widely branched; very pale wistaria violet to bluish lavender, the haft conspicuously flushed amber to wax yellow; 45 in. S. domed; F. straight hanging; beard projecting, conspicuous, orange tipt. The yellow haft suggests a blend rather than a self. [R. S. Sturtevant, "Descriptions of Varieties, Part VI", A.I.S. Bulletin 53 (October 1934): 26.]
