(TB) 'Bandwagon'

1963, Tompkins

'Bandwagon' ( Chet Tompkins, R. 1963). Sdlg. 58-114B. TB, 39" (99 cm), Midseason to late bloom. Color Class-V5, Blended rose, fuchsia, amethyst, magenta, violet touched brown. 'Brigadoon' X (( 'Brigadoon' x 'Ahoy') x 'Lantana'). Fleur de Lis 1963.

BANDWAGON (Tompkins 1963) M.L. 40 in. Brigadoon x ((Brigadoon x Ahoy) x Lantana)). This huge child of Brigadoon is very much larger than its parent, with thick leathery substance and has extremely beautiful form with broad, domed standards and wide, semi-flaring falls. It is a deeper blending of the same magentas, Fuchsia reds, Amethyst violets with chocolate haft as in Brigadoon but has inherited a brilliantly flushed overfone of hot Cherry red from Ahoy and a coppery brushed, gilded edge from Lantana. Overall, its as bright, brilliantly colored and exciting as the Bandwagon in a Circus parade. In spite of its huge size and thick, rigidly substanced petals it does not seem stiff and awkward for it is proportionally placed on tall, thick, widely branched stalks. An extra showy iris with broad clean foliage. A hardy, sure bloomer, it averages three to four increase. No. 58-114-B. $25.00. [Fleur De Lis Gardens, Canby, Oregon, Catalog, 1963]
