'Burniing Coals' ( Ben Hager, R. 1967). Seedling T1735A. TB, Height 35" (89 cm), Midseason bloom. Color Class-R3FD, Standards medium henna red; fFlls red-black. ( 'Ali Baba' x 'Glowing Amber') X ( 'Red Shadows' x 'Huntsman'). Melrose 1968. Honorable Mention 1969.

From Melrose Gardens catalog, 1968: BURNING COALS (Ben R. Hager '68) 35" Midseason ( (Ali Baba x Glowing Amber) X (Red Shadows x Huntsman). A "Novelty Shoppe" introduction, but more than that it is really a "first" in its color range; a black and red iris. Medium sized flowers have henna red standards and the falls are a solid, smooth black red. The petals are wide and held in the judiciously accepted positions. Branching is excellent. $20.00
