---++ (TB) 'Charm' 1937, Mitchell 'Charm' ([[Main.Bio.HybridizerMitchellSydneyB][Sidney B. Mitchell]], 1937) TB. Late midseason bloom. Color Class-R9M. Mild fragrance. [[TbFthruJ.TbHelios]['Hélios']] x [[Ib.IbKing Midas]['King Midas']]. Mitchell 1937, Salbach 1937; R., 1937. Additional nursery listings: Wayman 1943; Cooley 1945. Although competing in the crowded red field, Charm is so distinct that it is not only worthy of introduction, but is most apparently headed for many future triumphs. Chief of its manypoints of distinction is that it is a glowing light strawberry red while the other varieties are mostly on the deeper tones. Color by Ridgway - Standards Jasper red, falls Popmeian red. Well branched, of good form, and with heavy texture. Hardiness is assured, as Charm was produced from a Helios x King Midas cross. Late. 33-inch. $10.00. | | Citations: Gardening Illustrated(London) *61*:277, 6 May 1939, with illustration. | | Later, in Chicago, it was my pleasure to see 'Charm', a well named light and bright strawberry red with a burning quality in its color. Truly charming. It was of medium size and not tall but was well branched and well formed. I liked it immensely. [1938 Observations, Virginia F. Clutton, A.I.S. Bulletin 72:8 Jan. 1939] | | Wayman, 1943: Charm—33 in. NEW. Superb large flowers of brilliant red. $1.00. | | Cooley's, 1945: CHARM (Mitchell, 1937). Quite a different tone of strawberry red, a bit lighter than most other reds, and with a slight smoky wash that seems to restrain the color. It is large in size, blooming somewhat late. Each 75c ; 3 for $2.00. | --- %INCLUDE{"AdmTbInsert"}% --- %COMMENT{ type="bottom"}% --- -- Main.BetsyHiggins - 2013-09-03
