From Carl Salbach catalog 1936: Cortez. A bold near-variegata of fine form. Standards honey colored, with falls of ruby red, marked white at haft. Not tall with us on a first year plant, but grows 38 inches in established plantings elsewhere. Highly commended in New England, where it was introduced. $25.
From Fairmount Gardens catalog, 1938/39: CORTEZ (Nesmith 1934) The well domed standards are yellow overlaid with faint rose at the edge, reminding one of moire silk. The very flaring falls are intense crimson-purple with very velvety substance. The flower has firm texture, withstands heat, wind and rain. One of the last to bloom. A very brilliant iris. H. M .. A. l. S. 1933. 38 in. $18.50.
