From Schreiner’s catalog, 1964: CRYSTAL BLUE (Schreiner 1964) ML. 37". This clear, frosty, glacial blue is a seedling of the famous Galilee crossed with one of our own blue lines. We are trying year after year to achieve a definite progression toward greater blueness and this is our bid for 1964. Crystal Blue features fine form. It is of medium height and rather late flowering. We feel that it is a definite advance from the popular Galilee. A choice iris that will be your pride and joy. Very broad petaled rich blue-for those who love blue, and we do, this is a most satisfying iris. No.R573-C. $25.00
CRYSTAL BLUE (Schreiner '64) is another vigorous iris which produced six increases for us the first year. It is the deepest pure blue that we've seen. The flowers are huge and somewhat tailored. [Joseph Ghio, “The 1965 Iris Season in Review,” Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 179 (October 1965): 80.]
CRYSTAL BLUE (Schreiner '64). This selection maintains merit in a crowded grouping due to three important traits-frosty, crystalline color, impeccable, flaring form, and late season of bloom. A direct descendent of 'Galilee', this blue further rewards one with a husky stem and plant. A variety not receiving proper plaudits and easily the finest late bloomer in medium blue. Primary fault-cannot seem to reach prescribed height consistently. [Roger R. Nelson, “Your More Music Survey,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 197 (April 1970): 8.]

  • TB 'Crystal Blue' was blooming at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately June 3-12. I didn't notice any Purple Based Foliage at the base of the leaves, but there was purple coloring on the spathes. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 15 Aug 2017
