From "The Dykes Irises" catalog, 1929 - A.M., R.H.S. Flowers bright violet-blue of a delightful self-colour, and unveined, but with a conspicuous golden yellow beard which gives the variety its name. Height 2 1/2 to 3 feet. A very fine variety.
From G. G. Whitelegg caatlog, 1921: GOLDCREST (Dykes), A. M., R.H.S. Flowers bright violet-blue of a delightful self-colour, and unveined, but with a conspicous golden yellow beard which gives the variety its name. Height, 2ft. to 3-ft. A very fine variety, which we recommend.
From Bonnewitz catalog 1923/24: GOLD CREST (Dykes) $1.00. The beard on this variety is very pronounced, of a beautiful shade of yellow, and contrasts very nicely with the attractive cold blue color of the blooms. There is another Gold Crest on the market which must not be confused with the one originated by Dykes.
