From AIS Bulletin #201 April 1971 Introducing GOODNIGHT IRENE (Sexton '71) (Pacific Panorama X Indiglow) M. 36". A new deep navy blue with very large, perfectly formed flowers. Its petals are extra broad and the standards which are delicately ruffled dome perfectly, while the broad, ruffled falls flare to perfection. A rich turquoise blue beard adds depth. Four-way branching with nine blooms per stalk. $25.00. Sexton's Iris Garden.
GOODNIGHT IRENE (Sexton '71) I consider one of those "overlooked" irises. Its form may not be perfect, but there's no color quite like it; from any place in the garden its distinctive shade of royal blue stands out. Good growth and lots of buds per stem keep its richness available for many days. James McWhirter, “Reflections and Anticipations,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, Vol. 57, No. 221 (April 1976): 8.]
