| LINGERING SUNSET (Tompkins '65) Perhaps we have put this in the wrong place. It is a beautiful orange-apricot pink. However, the orange tones were so dominant as we saw it that we'll list it here. The standards are tight, the falls flare gracefully, the substance is excellent. It certainly drew more than its share of raves from people who really know their irises. A dandy. [Ralph and Helen Lewis, “Iris from the Carolinas to Iowa and Ohio,” Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 179 (October 1965): 93.]
| LINGERING SUNSET (Tompkins 1965) E. ML. 38 in . (Herald Angel x Frost and Flame) x (Marie Fischer x Gaulter 57-44:-F. Kent x Ballerina)) x Orange Parade . An extremely large orange-apricot flower of lovely form with perfectly domed standards and semi-flaring falls. Sleek and shining, the broad, gently fluted petals are delightfully cool and crisp in appearance due to their heavy substance and glistening finish. While it is essentially a self of medium orange-cot, there is a very subtle blending or undertone of dusky rose or reddish-pink that adds much life and depth to the color and sets it quite apart from others. Strong, widely branched, zig-zag type stalks show the huge flowers perfectly and create quite a show. No. 62-17A ........ $ 20.00. [Fleur de Lis catalog, 1965]
