MARGERY (Dean). This tall bearded Iris, if for no other reason, should be in every garden for its strong, sweet grapey fragrance, which permeates the atmosphere all about the garden, and, when cut, delightfully perfumes the air of the living room. The blooms though they are held away from the stem and are of good form and size, and substances, are a bit too heavy for the stalks which bend somewhat with their weight, and were this fault obviated and the blooms more widely and lower branched, this Iris would be hard to beat. Yet with the faults noted, I am very fond of it for its fine fragrance. Its blooming habit, and growth are good--not at all weedy and it too performed well in the trying season just closed. In color a rich medium blue bicolor (B3M). [Chas. E. F. Gersdorff, "Varietal Notes from Washington, D. C.", A.I.S. Bulletin 40 (July 1931): 49.] |
