Bunyard's 1930 catalog notes "Merope. Undoubtedly one of the finest new Iris. Merope may be best described as an improved Ambassadeur. The standard-i are much cleaner and the falls a richer brown than Ambassadeur and are well held out. The whole shape of the flower is all that could be desired, and the substance is such that they outlast other normal flowers....4-ft. ...June...each
