1974, Hamblen

'New Rochelle' (Melba Hamblen, R. 1973). Seedling# H67-128. TB, 30" (76 cm). Midseason to late bloom. Standarads light red (RHS 36D); falls violet-blue (91C) with violet (87C) wash in center; orange-red beard. ('Lilac Champagne' x ('Rippling Waters' x (('Promising' x 'Valimar' sibling) x sibling))) X ('Lilac Champagne' x ('Fair Luzon' x 'Garden Party')). Mission Bell 1974. High Commendation 1973; Honorable Mention 1976.

From AIS Bulletin #212 January 1974 Introducing NEW ROCHELLE 30", M-L. The closest approach to the long-sought-for "pink and blue" we have seen. Falls read (RHS) 91C, lighter area around beard, washed with violet 87C. Standards light red (36D). Beard orange-red (31A). Nicely formed, lightly ruffled flowers of medium size are in exact proportion to the strong stalks which have excellent branching and bud count. Lilac Champagne x (Rippling Waters x ((Promising x Val. sib, blue) x sib)) X Lilac Champagne x (Fair Luzon x Garden Party.) No. H67-128. HC '73. $25.00. Mission Bell.
