From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1939: "Creamy white with a golden buff overlay, a most unusual color break and a distinctly beautiful iris. Standards are domed and closed, falls flaring and rather tailored in appearance. The fine lines showing in the photograph are a bit misleading, for the flower is actually a self, unmarred by veinings of any other color. Three feet tall, low branched, a very fine grower. This novelty is further indication of the great versatility in Dr. Kleinsorge's iris breeding. Each $15.00." |
From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1940: "A light creamy tan, with golden buff overlay, a most unusual color break and a distinctly beautiful new iris. Standards are domed and closed, falls flaring and rather tailored in appearance. A perfectly huge bloom, heavy of substance, and the longest lasting variety in our garden. A Kleinsorge introduction of 1939 that we consider the most outstanding recent iris next to 'Prairie Sunset'." |

From Carl Salbach catalog 1943: OLD PARCHMENT (Kleinsorge). Very large light tan with golden buff overlay. Standards are well domed and remain closed, flaring falls, smooth finish. Very heavy substance; blooms have good lasting qualities. Well branched, medium tall stems. $2.50. |

- The color tones are more intense when the bloom opens and lighten as it ages. The name is most fitting at the end of its run. A really soft, charming flower. -- MikeUnser - 15 Nov 2009
