From Iris Test Garden Catalog, 1955: SOLID GOLD. (Kleinsorge, 1951). A new yellow that we believe to be superior to any other. It is impossible to do this fine flower justice in words. It has size, form, finish and substance but to climax all this let's try to describe the color. It is the deepest tone possible in a pure yellow, with tremendous carrying qualities and brilliance for the garden. Fine branching coupled with splendid growing habits. Vigorous and floriferous. Midseason. 36inches. H.M., A.I.S., 1951. $9.00.
From Cooley's Gardens catalog for 1951: "We have not introduced a yellow self from this hybridizer since 1944, when Goldbeater was brought out. There have been two or three times when certain superior yellows were marked for naming, and then a new one would come into flower and excel them. This one seems to be the "ultimate". It is difficult to explain, in cold words, how this Iris is superior to any yellow we have ever seen. But it surely is just that ... the deepest yellow imaginable, huge in size, very wide at the haft, ideally formed. Height over three feet, see page 43."
