■(TB) 'Tonalea'

1959, DeForest

'Tonalea' (Fred DeForest, R. 1955 for 1956). Seedling# 55-33. TB, 38" (97 cm), Midseason bloom. Standards Brazil red (Ridgway), falls darker. Seedling# 50-57 X 'Pacemaker'. Irisnoll 1959. Honorable Mention 1960.

TONALEA (DeForest 1959). An exceptionally nice deep red of unusual size, excellent form, and good substance. The falls are definitely darker in tone than the standards. [Ralph and Helen Lewis, “Irises From North Carolina’s Coastal Plains to the Foot of Pikes Peak,” The Bulletin of the American Iris Society, No. 167 (October 1962): 89.]
