'Tournament' (
Jesse Wills, R. 1945) TB. Late bloom season. Color Class R7M.
'Monadnock' x Hall #39-85, sister of
'Stardom'.
TOURNAMENT (J. Wills 1948) L. This large, luminous, and very late flowering iris is one of the best in the rosepurple class. Really more rose than purple, its color carries to a great distance in the garden. A very large round flower with broad well domed standards, and wide semiflaring falls. It resembles Monadnock in color (one of its parents), but it is brighter, smoother, and larger, enriched by the almost velvety brown overlay on the hafts, this is in sharp contrast to the bright yellow beard. The branching is a bit high, but the flowers are well spaced with plentv of buds to give profusion of bloom, and the luxuriant foliage comes up well around the very strong sturdy stalks. Well substanced colorful flowers. A great addition in prolonging the season of bloom. 42 in. $15.00.
