From Chevy Chase Iris Garden, Marion Shull catalog, 1926: VIRGINIA MOORE — H.M., A.I.S. 1920 — “The largest and finest deep yellow” — Wayman in Flower Grower for Oct. 1925. A tall yellow self whose Lemon Chrome, identical with that of the Lemon Lily (Hemerocallis flava), is well described as “A particularly luminous yellow that glows in the twilight as if compelling the sunlight to linger a while after it has departed from the rest of the garden.” Poorly grown specimens sometimes show a broken veining that detracts from the beauty of the falls but well established clumps make a splendid clear yellow mass effect in the garden. Said to do best in California when given partial shade and an abundance omoisture. Height 30 to 34 inches. $1.00.

From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1921: VIRGINIA MOORE. (Shull 1921.) H.M. A.I.S. 1920. The tallest yellow self to date, standing 33 inches. and giving a fine mass effect. The color is exactly the shade of Hemerocallis Flava. Flower is slightly veined. First-year plants occasionally show streaks. but when established the effect is almost a true self and should prove very valuable for garden work. It is taller than Aurea, Mrs. Neubronner, and Sherwin-Wright. An American introduction of great merit.
