From Movilla Gardens catalog, 1921: MEDRANO. (Vilmorin 1920.) S. and F. a beautiful, dark, smoky red. Unique among Irises. Large flowers. Medium early. 24-27 inches. |
From Wing Seed Co. 1922 catalog; "Medrano — (Vilm.) Half early, about 24 in. high. Large flowers with upper segments of a smoked, vinous purple colour and dark reddish violet lower segments, strongly striped at the base. Beards and styles yellow $10.00 |
From Bonnewitz catalog, 1926: MEDRANO (Vilmorin) $1.50 S. reddish-copper with slight suggestion of violet; F. dark crimson purple, almost black in parts, flecked with buff and lavender. This splendid variety is taller and has larger blooms than Opera, and the color has slightly more of an orange tone, and is very, very attractive. One of our best selling varieties. |
