'Purple King' (Nathanael Wallich, collected 1830, Katmandu, Nepal). Section Iris. IB; Color Class-R1D.
"Unlike most of the Iris germanica forms mentioned, 'Nepalensis' has the falls and standards almost the same shade of deep red-purple. The beard hairs are bluish-white at the apex of the beard, graduating to white with orange tips on the haft." -- B. Mathew The Iris. Royal Gardens in 1933 lists as" 30 inches. 'Kochii' color, but larger blooms with broader segments and flaring falls. better grower";2n=24?. Clibran 1881. Iris germanica.
