'Atroviolacea' (Augustino Todaro, 1856). DB, height 4-5" (10-18 cm). Very early bloom. Red-violet bitone; white beards. Collected; probable natural hybrid between I. lutescens and I. pumila . Todaro 1856. Honorable Mention 1951; Caparne Award 1952.
Note: A.I.S. approved name: 'Pumila Atroviolacea', though not I. pumila .
Atroviolacea. A dwarf bearded variety flowering in April. Standards and falls deep violet. Six inches. The first bearded Iris to bloom - - - $0.25. [Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1930]
