The Cornell Agriculture Experimental Station Memoir #100, 1926, provides the following description: "Color effect a creamy white to a slightly darker sulfur-white; size small; form short, open, rounded; flowering habit shy to free; dwarf bearded class; height 4-12 in.; not branched. A flower of moderately poor substance; frail texture; smooth or slightly cxreped surface; good fragrance; poor lasting quality. Its dwarf, smallish flowers bloom early, so that their sulfury mass is interesting.
"Standards cream-white, tinged with purplish at the extreme base of the claw; carriage cupped, arched; blade ovate, notched, undulate, ruffled, revolute, crumpled; size ¾ in. wide, 1 ½ in. long. Falls massicot yellow, slightly tinged with green, reticulated with light brown; carriage flaring; shape spatulate, convex; smooth; size ¾ in. wide, 1 ½ in. long. Minor parts: beard fine, dense, projecting, tipped with yellow at base; haft broad, channeled; reticulations fine widely spaced; style-branches very narrow, erect; crest small, recurved, fringed; pollen plentiful; spathe-valves green, one-third scarious, inflated. Growth weak; increase slow; habit open; foliage stiff, leaves slender, glaucous yellow-green; stalk erect, with 1 bud to a sheath."
Synonym: a variety of Iris lutescens Lam..
