Iridodyctium hycanum (Woronow ex Grossheim) Rodionenko

Iris hyrcana
One of the earliest blooming iris from the reticulata group, often showing through snow. Flowers are 2.5-3 cm across, held less than 10 cm high, clear sky blue flushed lavender violet (in some clones) with a bright orange signal on the falls. Considerably smaller than I. reticulata, to which it is closely related. Found in the mountains along the southwest Caspian Sea. First described from the Talysk range. Often shows the same habit*of splitting into seed bulblets after blooming, much like I. danfordiae.
