Iris ludwigii Maxim (Karl Johann Maximowicz, 1880, Altai Dist.); Section Limniris, Series Spuriae. Height 4-12" (10-30 cm); violet blue flowers overtopped by 20-40 cm grassy foliage; Falls with a longitudinal beard of small dense hairs; Bull. Acad. Pet. 26: 508. 1880; Herb. St. Petersb.; (said to be a form of Iris humilis with stoloniferous rhizomes, but treated as a separate species by Mathew)
