Iris nelsoni (L. Fitz Randolph, 1966, Abbeville Swamp,Louisiana) Subgenus Limniris, Series Hexagonae, 70-110 cm, Stems often branched. Flowers usually red but variable to yellows, pinks, reddish purple, up to 10 cm in diameter with petals often reflexed as in Iris fulva. A now stable species that arose from hybridization of I. fulva and I. giganticaerulea. Randolph Baileya 14: 150. 1966

Distribution & Cultivation

Distribution: The distribution of the species gives clues as to its cultural requirements, although plants in cultivation can often tolerate a wider range of variables: The species is found in the following region: Abbeville swamp of Vermilion Parishm in central south Louisiana.
