Iris postii Mouterde (Professor Paul Mouterde, 1966, Western Iraq, Eastern Syria , and Eastern Jordan); Subgenus Scorpiris, (Juno); height 3-8" (8-20 cm); Storage roots wiry not fleshy; Bulb tunics elongated into a long persistent neck. 4-6 leaves which are well developed at flowering time, up to 16 cm long by 1.6 cm broad at base. The upper surface more or less shiny green while the grayish lower surface is papillose to scabrid along the nerves. The membranous , white margins are usually scabrid-ciliate. 1-3 Flowers, blotched and veined dark violet on a pale lavender ground. Haft of fall to 2 cm wide upward turning wings. Blade of the fall with a scarcely raised yellow papillose crest. Standards obovate with a narrow claw, the whole about 1.5 cm by .6 cm broad. Style branches 3-3.5 cm long; Mouterde in Nouv. Fl. Liban & Syrie, i. 309(1966) illustrated.
