'Unguicularis Speciosa'. (C. G. Van Tubergen, 1900). Series Unguiculares; Color Code-B3D; falls deep violet blue: 2n=38. Van Tubergen 1900. Dykes (1921) noted that there may be two plants circulating under the name I. speciosa, but he believes but the plant he calls speciosa is distinct from Algerian unguicularis by having "curious bosses or swellings at the base of the segments of the flower." Iris unguicularis , subsp. carica variety angustifolia (Boiss. & Held.) Davis & Jury. ( Iris unguicularis Poir.).
Added reference: Garden And Forest, p44, #257, 1893 notes "Var. Speciosa, now in flower with me, is rather light purple, with white and yellow markings on the falls, and the standards, which are erect, are suffused with a coppery bronze on the inner base".
