A member of the Reticulata group, Subgenus Hermodactyloides, Similar to Iris reticulata but with different coloring and distinguished by the seed capsule raising on a stalk above ground as opposed to the below ground position of reticulata. The flowers are also self cleaning (dehiscent) from the beaked ovary. Originating from and named after the Zagros, a mountain range in western Iran
