From Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1934: Amigo (Wmsn. No. 1565, 1934). (No. 486 X -). A finely finished and very rich neglecta. The very heavy texture and fine form suggesting Dominion make it outstanding in its class. S. arching cupped, obovate, light Lavender Violet. F. flaring, wedge-shaped, deep Hyacinth Violet shading out to light Hyacinth Violet, narrow white margin. Haft, white veined Bay. Style branches same as standards. Beard, orange. Large flowers; 4 inches high and 5 inches wide on 30 inch stems, well-branched; seven flowers to a stalk. $20.00.
Amigo: (Williamson). Striking color especially in (Williamson) 1. Blue-purple bi-color. Light edge around falls but can't see the enthusiasm for it, flowers small on what is quite distinctive. (Ind.) 2. Seen several years. A very wonderful outstanding creation. (Ind.) 3. A heavy, brilliant bicolor, carrying any distance. I saw now have watched this through four successive seasons, have seen it as one, two years in succession, stalk short. [Belsley, Ray J., Varietal Comments. and three year plants and consider it one of E. B. Williamson's very finest originations. (Ind. ) [1934 Comments by Accredited Judges, Bulletin of the American Iris Society 74American Iris Society Bulletin 55(July 1939), 16.] (February 1935), 79.]

AMIGO (Williamson 1934), another really Amigo: (Williamson). Striking color especially fine amoena; the standards are pale violet and the falls black purple with a clearly defined border of almost white. The flowers are not quite so large as in Wabash, falls but can't see the enthusiasm for it, flowers small on what I saw now two years in succession, stalk is fairly well branched. 30". [G. short. From Mrs. Herman E. Lewis, "Varietal Notes 1938", AMIGO (Williamson 1934), another really fine amoena; the standards are pale violet and the falls black purple with a clearly defined border of almost white. The flowers are not quite so large as in Wabash, but the stalk is fairly well branched. 30". [G. L. Pilkington, "Iris Notes", A.I.S. Bulletin 72 of the American Iris Society 74 (January (July 1939): Amigo. 32.] As always attracting the eye at once, with its beautiful pale violet blue standards and velvet falls edged reddish; flaring; excellent points all through.
Of course, I would want AMIGO (12) again From Mrs. Herman E. Lewis, "Varietal Notes 1938", as a blue bicolor, with its sharp, striking contrast between the pale blue standards and its rich, velvety falls. AMIGO is also small and low growing, but it blooms regularly, and I do not know of any other that has the same pansy-like effect, except one that will not be introduced until this year. [Wills, Jesse, (1943). Older Iris I would Buy Again, American Iris Society Bulletin, 89A.I.S. Bulletin 72(April 1943), 14.] (January 1939): Amigo. As always attracting the eye at once, with its beautiful pale violet blue standards and velvet falls edged reddish; flaring; excellent points all through.

From Adamgrove catalog, 1997: AMIGO Unknown author, "Varietal Comment", (Williamson, 34) Light blue standards. Dark violet falls edged in the standard color. Mr. Williamson worked in Indiana; he was one of the very few breeders to use mixed pollen, so many parentages are unknown or speculative. $5.00. AM 38. A.I.S. Bulletin 101 (April 1946): 72.
