'Gala Madrid' (Les Peterson, R. 1967). Seedling# LP 65-10. TB, 30" (76 cm). Late midseason bloom. Standards butterscotch gold; falls wine red with half inch brownish red border; small blue flash below deep yellow beard. 'Main Event' X 'Gypsy Lullaby'. Tell 1968. High Commendation 1967, Honorable Mention 1969, Judges Choice 1969, Award of Merit 1971.

| GALA MADRID was first seen without a label when it was guested for the 1968 National. It impressed us as the best guest we previewed in 1967. Our strong belief in this iris has only been reinforced since. Brilliant gold standards and blended violet and red falls. On paper the colors sound clashing, but they don't clash when you see it. | GALA MADRID is a bright bicolor with enough buds to keep it blooming for a long period of time and enough other good qualities to offset the fact that it is sometimes a bit short. - TB Gala Madrid was blooming at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, zone 4b, approximately May 30 - June 4, in 2017; it was a very small clump. I didn't see any Purple Based Foliage at the base of the leaves, but there was purple coloring on the spathes. -- HollyJohnson2017-04-01 - 24 Aug 2017
